MY JOURNEY
So, why does someone choose to be a "spicy" photographer, anyways?
Hi, My Name is Mariah!
This is the raw-dog version of me. Think about images people have taken of you, the ones where you see them and you’re like, “oh GOD” that’s not how I picture myself in my head at all.” These are those images for me. The images I would never have posted 2 years ago for anyone to see. These images give it all away, by bad teeth since having my son, my scalp dermatitis that never goes away, my double chin, my size, my stretch marks, my terrible thigh tattoos- everything. But I bet when you first saw these images, you aren’t thinking “OMG this woman is disgusting” you probably thought how happy I must be, with how many smiles and how much love there is in these photos.
Now after 2 years of boudoir and helping so many women including myself, really get to SEE what everyone else gets to see- I see the happiness in these photos. Everything else I used to see as negative things about myself, are just proof that I’ve lived and given a life to my son. Boudoir sessions aren’t just some gift to a partner- it’s the ultimate gift to yourself.
After having my son, Bennie, whom my fiancé and I wanted so badly, I didn't recognize myself anymore. I hated me. Since I already had my camera and all of the equipment, I decided to try and take some empowering self-portraits of myself. Looking back at them now, it's like, "OMG MARIAH you had no clue what you were doing" HAH.
But, this was the changing point. After seeing them for the first time after taking them, I started feeling more myself. Even with no knowledge of boudoir or how to pose or anything, I felt more desirable. This is what started my boudoir journey. (Image above, yes that's me!)
As a mama of a toddler, I understand how important self-care is. We can not pour from an empty cup. Empowering people deserves all of my time and all of my passion. It lights a creative fire in me. I want to be able to help as many humans feel human again.
To me, boudoir isn't all about boobs and booties everywhere. It's also about power and being grateful for your body and everything it has gotten you through. Some people need help with body dysmorphia or just help with looking in the mirror again and not ONLY seeing stretch marks. Some people (maybe even you), have never known self-confidence.
For my couples looking at this- couples are so important to me because I know how close me and my fiancé are. This guy is my bestfriend and lover all-in-one. I absolutely love (and feel extremely honored) being able to work with other couples who want to grow their connection and their self-confidence, together. It can be so hard (speaking from experience) to find your forever person, why not celebrate finding the one for you?
Empowerment and confidence looks different on everyone. I'm here to help you along your self-love journey; whatever that looks like for YOU.
And hey, if you want to bring a supportive friend or your love, please do, the more love the better.
